The Sumitomo Electric Lightwave ER-10 is a genuine replacement electrode set for Sumitomo optical fiber fusion splicers. The electrodes generate the arc that fuses two prepared fiber ends; as they wear, arc stability and splice quality degrade, so periodic replacement with OEM electrodes keeps the splicer performing to specification.
Electrode service life depends on the splicer model and is stated in that splicer's data sheet. Sumitomo splicer operation manuals instruct technicians to use only genuine Sumitomo ER-10 electrodes and to operate the splicer with electrodes installed.
