The Jonard Tools JIC-125 is a compact single-hole fiber optic stripper that removes the 250 micron coating from optical fiber to expose the 125 micron glass underneath, the step performed immediately before cleaning and cleaving the fiber. Because a nick or scratch on the bare glass can ruin a cleave, the stripping hole is preset at the factory and there is nothing for the technician to adjust.
In use, the jaws are closed on the fiber at the desired strip length, squeezed, and the tool is pulled straight off the end of the fiber to slide the coating off; the bare fiber is then cleaned before cleaving. The JIC-125 is a one-hole tool dedicated to 250 micron coating; the three-hole JIC-375 is the companion model that also handles 600-900 micron buffer and 1.6-3.0 mm jackets.
