The Corning UR-BOX is a Presslok™ copper splice connector used by service providers for butt splicing solid copper conductors in outside-plant and embedded-plant telephone and broadband networks. Corning specifies it as a gel-filled butt connector that accepts two or three (2 or 3) conductors in the 26 to 19 AWG range, equal to a conductor diameter of 0.4 mm to 0.9 mm (0.02 in to 0.04 in).
The factory-installed sealant gives the splice moisture resistance. Presslok connectors offer full wire-range capability, an increased port size that accommodates insulation diameters up to 2.08 mm (0.082 in), and solvent-resistant plastic construction, and they are installed with the Presslok crimp tool.
Dry versions of Presslok connectors are available for central office and vault applications.
